The Hanson Mesa Domestic Pipeline Company (HMDPC) was created in 1965 with the filing of its Articles of Incorporation as a Colorado non-profit corporation. The purpose of the Company is to distribute water treated by the Town of Hotchkiss to residents living on Hanson and Powell Mesas in Delta County. Hotchkiss owns the water rights and treats the water per Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) specifications. HMDPC has constructed and maintains its own pipeline system to deliver treated Hotchkiss water to HMDPC shareholders. HMDPC also tests the water quality on the HMDPC system regularly as required by CDPHE regulations. A copy of the most recent HMDPC Water Quality Report can be found here: Drinking Water Quality Report
The main pipeline system was constructed in 1968 and originally delivered water to 60 shareholders. The Articles have been amended through the years permitting 90 shareholders. No additional shares are available at present. Any additional shares would require amendment of the Company's Articles of Incorporation and an agreement with the Town of Hotchkiss permitting the sale of additional shares.
In 2022, the Company installed state-of-the-art water meters for all taps. These meters permit remote reading by the superintendent who reads them every month. The Secretary then bills all shareholders on a quarterly basis based upon the monthly meter readings.
